Creative Ironworks / Black Hills Powder Coating is looking for a dependable, organized Office Manager – Powder Coating Operations to join our team in Rapid City.
This is a hands-on office position in a powder coating environment. Approximately 70% of the role is office and administrative work, while the other 30% involves working directly with our shop and production team.
The primary responsibility is receiving and coordinating incoming powder coating jobs. You’ll make sure customer parts are properly received, documented, organized, and communicated to the production team so each job gets off to the right start.
We’re looking for someone who is organized and professional but also comfortable getting out of the office and into the shop when the job requires it.
Receive incoming powder coating jobs and work directly with customers during drop-off and pickup
Review parts and customer requirements and prepare accurate work orders
Enter and maintain job information in our computer system
Coordinate incoming jobs with the production team
Keep customer jobs organized and moving through the shop
Communicate job status and completion information to customers
Answer phones, emails, and general customer questions
Load and unload parts and materials as needed
Move and organize customer jobs within the shop
Operate a forklift when needed
Maintain organized customer records and job documentation
Handle general office management and administrative responsibilities
Assist management with scheduling, reporting, and day-to-day operational needs
The right person will be organized, dependable, mechanically comfortable, and willing to get involved.
You don’t need to be a powder coating expert. We can teach you our process. What matters most is that you:
Are dependable and take pride in doing things correctly
Have strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills
Can manage multiple jobs and priorities at the same time
Are comfortable working with computers and office software
Can communicate professionally with customers and coworkers
Are comfortable working around a manufacturing/shop environment
Aren’t afraid to get out of the office and help when needed
Have good judgment and can work independently
Have previous office, manufacturing, warehouse, construction, automotive, or production experience — preferred but not required
Have forklift experience — a plus, but we can provide training
While this is primarily an office position, the job includes regular hands-on work in our powder coating shop.
You should be comfortable with:
Loading and unloading customer parts and materials
Lifting and moving items weighing up to 75 lbs.
Standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving around the shop as needed
Working around normal manufacturing noise, equipment, and shop activity
Operating a forklift when necessary
This isn’t a traditional office job where you’re behind a desk all day.
You’ll spend much of your day handling work orders, coordinating jobs, answering questions, and keeping things organized — but you’ll also be part of the shop operation. You’ll know what jobs are coming in, where they need to go, what the production team needs, and what needs to happen next.
If you like working with people, staying organized, and having a job where you’re actually involved in the operation, this could be a great fit.
